Propane Safety
First and foremost... If you smell a strong gas odor, the best thing
to do is to open doors and windows as you leave the building and turn
off the propane supply at your MAIN valve at the tank. Then call us
from your neighbor's house or from a cell phone outside your home to
report the leak. Do not attempt to fix the leak yourself. Do not create
any ignition sources such as turning on or off light switches, lighting
cigarettes, etc.
Propane is flammable and heavier than air and can collect in basement
areas and closed rooms. You must be careful even outdoors with propane
as it can migrate downhill in calm wind conditions.
If you ever run out of propane in your home we MUST perform a System
Safety Check on your home before restoring service to make sure the
outage was not caused by a leak or malfunctioning appliance. This may
require a service fee if you are one of our Will Call customers. So
please schedule deliver whenever your tank gauge shows 30% or lower
to avoid running out.
We also recommend that ALL of our customers have their piping systems
pressure tested periodically to test its integrity. You can call us
to schedule a convenient time for us to perform this important safety
test on your home.
Most of all, we encourage you to treat propane with respect and care.
Propane is a safe and economical source of energy but like the electricity
in your wall sockets and the gasoline in your car it can hurt you if
you do not take the time to understand it's principles and provide proper
maintenance.
We have more information available at our office in Paradise and you
can always call us anytime with questions.
